MDIR and especially Royce Miller are amazing. To start with he helped us by booking us when the Maple Grove event was cancelled. The next things were extraordinary as well …the three-day event was compressed into one day due to the weather forecast for Sunday and finally the track prep was awesome despite the brutal heat, humidity and oil downs. UNBELIEVABLE!!! Thank you MDIR TEAM / Royce.

Overview: Our attendance was low with only 10 cars making the event. Reasons given for not attending varied (weather concerns, 3-day event, unscheduled conflicts, waiting for parts, broken, gremlins etc.). The weather was hot (90 plus degrees) with extremely high humidity which made it feel even hotter. The track temperature was about 130 but the competition was still great. We ran two qualifying rounds that got the spectators pumped up.

Race Results Summary:
Round One: Kevin McCurdy, number on qualifier ran a first round at (5.83 @ 245) beat Ed Burnley (12.84 at 65 MPH). Ed had serious gremlins all day. Dwayne Wolfe, who had several major breakages at earlier events today ran a 5.92 @ 236 beating Steve King / Pilot / Miller Team (7.48 @ 134 MPH). Steve and his team were suffering with car issues all day while Dwayne had some problems with the transmission. Dean Marinis / Harry Pappas Team (last year’s points champion) qualified with a maiden quarter mile 5.96 pass, also had transmission problems but won as Derek Ward could not make the round. Tyler Hard (points leader) couldn’t make it to the round due to transmission problems. He ran an easy 5.91 in qualifying. Gary Hood took the win (7.18 @ 195 MPH). Jason White continues to be a force to contend with (5.95 @ 239 MPH) beating Matt Dietsch Jr. (6.04 @ 239 MPH). Looks like Junior will be another person to run in the 5.90s soon).

Round Two:
McCurdy had a bye and won, Dwayne Wolfe won as he too got a bye because Dean Marinis broken transmission could not be fixed. Gary Hood (7.00 @ 198 MPH) lost to Jason White (5.91 @ 238 MPH). Jason and his small but very hard-working guys continue to amaze.

Round Four (Finals):
Dwayne Wolfe Fouled but ran (5.82 @ 246 MPH) losing to Jason White (5.91 @ 239 MPH). Jason White stated “Wow is all I can say. Thanks to all the crew at MDIR and NEOPMA for all you’ve done and continue to do. Great group of guys and gals. It was an extremely emotional, hot, tricky, day for us but some how it happened. Thanks to all my crew and of course THE Man Donald “Shorty” Leppard for everything.”

Mark White also commented “Thanks for everything John. You, your crew and all the MDIR crew put on a great show despite the swampiest conditions we’ve seen all year. We appreciate it man.” Congrats to the White team as this is the first of many wins with the NEOPMA.
