(Maple Grove Raceway, Mohnton, Pennsylvania.) Special Thank you to Brian Hard who sponsored the event. Thank you to Betsy, Sarah, Tricia, Jake and the entire MG team for giving us a super track and punctual, on time rounds.

Additional thanks to our NEOPMA Officials for the great work they did and an extra thanks to Donna for great announcing.

What a crazy but great race we had at the Grove this past weekend. Thursday several guys rented the track to get the cobwebs out…and they did. On Friday it poured, not rained, POURED. So, we hung around hoping it would end but it didn’t. Saturday, we welcomed the sun and did it get hot and sticky. All still loved it, even our new members.

Welcome to our new members …John Camp, Bill Marks, George Papalexandrou, and Glen Hunter.

Saturday Qualifying Summary:
HOT, HOT, HOT and Sticky. Sixteen Cars showed up for the race. Gary Courtier broke a driveshaft testing and Tony Morrell kissed the wall. Fourteen cars made it into the field with the top 8 running 3.70 to 3.97. Kevin McCurdy 3.70, John Camp 3.71, Mike (Mountain Man) Achenbach 3.73, Tyler Hard 3.74, Fred Scriba (Sorcerer) 3.77, Dean Marinis 3.78, Matt Dietsch Jr 3.84 and Andy Jensen 3.97. It was great to see how fast the rest of the filed was, ranging from 4.00 to 4.80 even with engine problems.

Sunday Eliminations started at 10 AM

Round One:
McCurdy got the bye, so he eased it down the track with an 8.53.
Andy Jensen 3.97 @ 196 just beat Mike Lubniewski 3.99 @ 183 (uncommon slow light) Tyler Hard also eased it down the track because Tony Morrell didn’t make the call. John Cozzalli 4.38 @ 163 lost to Fred Scriba 3.77 @ 199. John Camp wanted to lay down a number and he did with a 3.73 @ 202 as Glen Hunter fouled. Matt Dietsch Jr went a great 3.80 @ 198 beating Wally Zalak 4.10 @ 181. George Papalexandrou lost to Mike (Mountain Man) Achenbach 4.02 @ 188 who blew a plastic fitting getting trans fluid under the car. Dean Marinis ran a picture perfect 3.76 @ 203 beating Bill Marks fouled.

Round Two:
McCurdy beat Jensen in a peddle fest, Fred Scriba 3.86 @ 199 beat Tyler Hard’s tire shaking 4.12 @ 194, John Camp 3.76 @ 199 beat Matt Dietsch Jr 3.82 @ 198, Mike Mountain Man scared us all. when his car went into the other lane on top end and lost to Dean Marinis 3.78 @ 201.

Round Three (Semis):
REAL DOOR TO DOOR KICK BUTT DRAG RACES
Kevin McCurdy went faster 3.78 then his archrival Fred Scriba 3.85 taking the win. John Camp 3.76 @ 199 nosed out Dean Marinis 3.79 @ 201.

Round Four Final.
The day was getting stickier and hotter. The question was would the guys be able to lay down some numbers. Camp and McCurdy lined up, but Camp’s team made it down with a 3.75 @ 201 beating Kevin’s tire shaking 5.58.

To the guys who didn’t make to race with us …YOU MISSED A REAL GOOD ONE.
Hope to see you at Cecil County on July 31 and August 1.
Regards, John
