Kurt Steding Wins NEOPMA Door Wars At MDIR

Thanks to Royce Miller and the entire MDIR Team for a great track, prep and safety. Thanks to our racers for supporting the club and your continued attendance. Somewhat disappointing 15 car attendance but what we lost in volume we picked up in quality. Real good given the pandemic and heat. I am really delighted and proud that some of the best Pro Mod tuners (Todd Tutterow, Dean Marinis, Patrick Barnhill, Brandon Switzer, Carl Stevens, et al) were tuning our guys.

Thursday several guys tested and did well. On Friday the heat came but not as bad as Saturday and Sunday. Saturday was bad but Sunday was brutal, but we still went fast.

Welcome or welcome back to some new racers with the NEOPMA …Rich Hord, Todd Moyer, Kurt Steding, Dwyane Wolfe. One special mention …Mike Achenbach did some great, heroic driving in eliminations. Mike’s car started veering left into Kurt Steding lane, so to avoid hitting him he steered it to the right crashing it into the wall. Fortunately, Mike is okay but the car not so good.

Race Results:

Saturday Qualifying Summary (TWO ROUNDS) …HOT, HOT, HOT and Sticky just like our last two races but worse.

Fifteen cars made it into the field but 3 broke in trying. Todd Moyer had serious pro charger problems. Derrick Ford lost a window and cracked a door. Fred Scriba broke several rear ends.

Dean Marinis, 3.67 (number one qualifier), with eight cars within hundredths of a second of number one. Mike Achenbach, Kurt Steding, Tyler Hard, Dave Norris, Fred Scriba Derek Ward and Matt Dietsch Jr in hot pursuit. Please remember that several of the racers were racing more prohibitive NHRA rules.
Sunday Eliminations Got Even Hotter as they started early afternoon.

Round One:
Four Bye Runs…Dean Marinis 3.76, Dave Norris 3.77, Derek Ward 3.82, Dwayne Wolfe 3.91
Matt Dietsch Jr with problems ran 17.38, lost to Rick Hord easy 4.10 @ 180 mph
Tyler Hard tire shaking, stabbing and steering took out his teammate Kevin McCurdy
Mike Achenbach (Mountain Man) ran a comfortable 3.81 @ 200 mph beat Vince Fourcade.
Kurt Steding eased it down the track 4.97 as he saw that Andy Jensen had severe tire shake

Round Two:
Dean Marinis 3.79 @ 201 mph beat Rick Hord 3.84 @ 194 mph
Tyler Hard tire shaking 4.44 lost to Dave Norris 3.80 @ 203 mph
Mike Achenbach 4.12 @ 195 beat Derek Ward 4.16 @ 154 mph (both shook)
Kurt Steding 3.84 @ 201 beat Dwayne Wolfe 3.93 @ 189 mph.
Round Three (Semis):
Mike Achenbach crashed / lost to Kurt’s 3.77 @ 202
Dean Marinis and Dave Norris both had problems, but Dean got the win with a 5.49 vs 14.22

Round Four Final.
Kurt made it look easy with a 3.73 @ 203 while Dean lifted as he was having problems.
