Event Promises to Deliver a lot of Horsepower, Speed, Excitement, and Variety!
MECHANICSVILLE, MARYLAND (May 4, 2015) –The 37th Annual Mountain Motor Nationals promises to possibly be one of the highest-quality, biggest variety events on record for the annual May classic at Maryland International Raceway.
The unique annual event will feature the region’s ever popular 900+ cubic inch, turbo-charged, supercharged, and nitrous injected pro mods in the 2nd stop of the season for the Northeast Outlaw Pro Mod Drag Racing Series 2015 points series chase. Over 20 entries are expected to invade MDIR in hopes to qualify for the 1/4 mile 16-car field. Earlier entries include season-opener event champion Kevin McCurdy in his Hamburg, PA based ’68 supercharged Camaro along with teammate and event runner-up Tyler Hard in his nitrous breathing immaculate ’68 Camaro. Also scheduled to attend the event include ’14 points series champion Dwayne Wolfe, along with series favorites Fred Scriba, Steve Assenmacher, Craig Pio as well as local standouts Mac McAdams and Rob Hunnicutt, among others.
The Wild Bunch makes its return to MDIR and its’ season debut bringing its wild and crazy collection of nostalgia alcohol fuel supercharged funny cars, altereds and front-engine dragsters to the long-standing event. Legendary funny car and national racing celebrity Bunny Burkett. This is a special season for Bunny as it’s her 50th year of racing and she still has the desire to entertain all her fans.
The popular, wheel standing, 800+ cubic inch, stock body, no wheelie bar Outlaw Drag Radial class makes it second visit to MDIR in ‘15. If the close competition witnessed at the April Door Wars event is any indication, this event promises to deliver even greater side-by action on the 1/8 mile with the likes of the North Carolina based tandem of Ziff Hudson with his ’80 Zephyr and Barry Mitchell’s ’92 Mustang looking to defend their 1st and 2nd place finish at the season opening Door Wars race.
The dynamic, bumper dragging, heads-up X275 class, led by record setting Ron Rhodes in his immaculate red, Townsend, Delaware based ’68 Camaro is also scheduled to compete at the Mountain Motor Nationals. Rhodes paced the 16-car April event field at MDIR’s Door Wars event with a 4.47 ET at 155.83 MPH pass to take the #1 qualifying spot and eventual race championship. Looking to stand in his way of a repeat championship include Pennsylvania based Vince Polazzolo in his ’02 Mustang and Rich Bruder with a ’88 Mustang. More than a dozen other top-end competitors are expected to join the field for their stake at the event win claim.
In the events other heads-up competition, the Ultra Street Class looks to put to excite fans with it high-flying street car appeal.
Last, but certainly not least, the show also includes a $5,000 to win each day Top ET event as well as the full Speed Unlimited E.T. Series will be in action on Saturday.
