(Mechanicsville, MD) It was great to see 12 NEOPMA Pro Mod cars (10 active members) take advantage of MDIR facility as a test session for upcoming races with several cars doing extremely well even with quarter mile tune ups. Large fields in both classes filled with steadfast PDRA racers who have set the bar high with record 1/8th mile times, our NEOPMA racers took the challenge to support one of our main series tracks but also show the diversity our club racers are capable of crossing over from full 1320ft to half-track competition and doing well.
The competition was tough with the regular PDRA racers well-tuned / prepared for the 1/8 mile event. Remember the NEOPMA tune up is much different for 1/4 mile racing.
SPECIAL CONGRATULATIONS TO KEVIN MCCURDY AND TOMMY GRAY WHO NOT ONLY QUALIFIED BUT ELIMINATED SOME OF THE FASTEST PDRA RACERS.
TOMMY GRAY WENT TO THE SEMI FINALS WHILE KEVIN McCURDY LOST IN ROUND TWO. It is interesting to note that both cars lost to the eventual winner Anthony DiSomma. Gray stated that mechanical issues caused his car to lose 6 MPH in that round otherwise he would have run a 3.83 ET.
Nitrous Pro Mod / Nitrous (Very Tough Class)
Robert Patrick, Chuck Mohn and Rob Hunnicutt performed extremely well.
Robert Patrick… NEOPMA’S FASTEST CAR DID AN FANTASTIC JOB running consistent mid-3.80s at 197 MPH. Robert and his team did a superior job tuning and piloting his car but lost against Chris Rini. Robert is our Nitrous club ET record holder in quarter mile running 5.83.
Chuck Mohn knew the competition would be tough and knew that it would be difficult to run the numbers. He just missed qualifying due to mechanical issues.
Rob Hunnicutt’s intake manifold was cracked which only got worse as the day went on.
Blower / Turbo Pro Mod / Boost (another tough class)
Gerry Capano did great in qualifying but got unlucky when he red lit by -.001 running a 3.91at 190 MPH.
Steve Drummond suffered transmission problems and kept him out of the ladder.
Steve King / Jeff Miller team ran 3.95s all day long which placed them 17th… just not enough to qualify. Steve said blower problems continue to plague them and believes they could have run in the 3.86-3.88 range even with their quarter mile tune up. Mac McAdams hurt the motor in qualifying.
Bruce Mullins attempted to qualify after he escaped serious damage during his wild ride on this very same track months before. Mullins Corvette was completely fresh after repairs but three runs were hardly enough to sort the car out and couldn’t get into in a tough 16 car field.
Melanie Salemi did great running consistent 3.90’s but was eliminated early on. Melanie is waiting for her new Pro Mod G-Force car. Look out! She is another great lady club racer.
Paolo Guist lost in the finals but had an outstanding day running mid-3.80s ET @195 MPH in the finals. Super car, team and driver.
Tom Gray had an outstanding day running consistent 3.88-3.89 ETs all day. Tom’s car was on a string… ALWAY STRAIGHT, ALWAYS FAST AND WINNING MANY ROUNDS. This is amazing when we consider that his car is tuned for QUARTER MILE and the PDRA completion is fierce. HE’S BACK!!!
Kevin McCurdy… another example of praise worthy tuning, racing and performance. Kevin too was running in the 3.88-3.90s all day. McCurdy runs NHRA quarter mile legal which puts him at a distinct disadvantage against PDRA cars that are allowed much more overdrive and bigger rear end gears. ANOTHER AMAZING, FANTASTIC JOB WELL DONE .
Top Sportsman
Allen Juhasz did a super job but did not qualify. Great job Allen.
AGAIN TO ALL OUR RACERS … GREAT JOB EVERYONE
