Kevin McCurdy Takes Super Chevy Pro Mod Win With NEOPMA

It’s taken me a couple of days to bounce back so I can imagine it must have been even harder for those hard working race teams. For those of you who weren’t there, let me give you a quick overview. The heat was brutal with 90 plus degrees (felt like over 100). The track temperature was 130 plus with three days of humid, shirt soaking, underarm failing but fun racing.

Needless to say we had a smaller race field due to a combination of heat, 3 day event, loss of racers to the PDRA at MIR and concern about track prep. Thanks to Lex Dudas, Jason Leber and the entire Maple Grove team who did a great job, being on time (minimal waiting in staging) and especially track prep. Also need to thank the NEOPMA team and racers for getting the cars to the lanes quickly and efficiently.

Here’s what happened:
Qualifying …we had 13 cars attend but Angela Ray Kinsen (6.23 ET) broke in testing while Tyler Hard (6.39 ET) and Matt Deitsch (6.18 ET) broke in qualifying. I should add that all three cars were running well considering only one shot down the track.

Eliminations Round one …Dwayne Wolfe won easily running a 5.92 against Dwayne Taylor. Chuck Mohn (6.09) beat his friend and team mate Todd Fontana (6.22) who had transmission problems the entire event. Dave Norris had been running great during qualifying (6.19) fouled against Andy Jensen (6.52). Kevin McCurdy ran a 6.04 beating Allan Juhasz 6.85 who also had converter problems. Steve King got tire shake and lost to Fred Scriba (6.37).

Round two …Dwayne Wolfe got a bye (6.17). Chuck Mohn hurt the engine (6.45) beating Andy Jensen (6.48). Kevin McCurdy (6.09) beat Fred Scriba (6.18).

Round three … Wolfe (5.95) and McCurdy (8.68) both got bye runs into the finals.

Finals …Dwayne Wolfe fouled (6.05) and lost to McCurdy who had tire shake and ran 12.03.
